Hi everyone,

Just a heads-up, this week’s lunchtime classes are back on (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) with Zac at the helm with a mixed bag of traditional themes (including Chi Sau, Forms and Dummy) plus conditioning to help with Christmas pudding!

The evenings are going to be an open mat, running a theme, plus conditioning. All seniors have a voice in this so pool your resources guys, it’s going to be a big year, instructors need to rest and recharge so week one is just getting back together, getting back on the mat and getting the body moving again. Structured classes start on Monday 11th January.

Greetings and Salutations,

Well, finaly it’s done and dusted. The end of 2020, can’t say I’ll mis it! Once again thanks to everyone for all that was said and done last year, I’ll always have fond memories of that.

In 1988 I sat down with Jonnie (Church) and discussed the future of the school and the potential of turning it into something bigger than us. We came up with the outline of what is now a deeply entreched mat culture: Family, Honour, Loyalty.

To truly understand these words:

“Family” blood family and the extended family that exist on our mat.

“Honour” embracing the code of the martial arts, Honour is the highest virtue.

“Loyalty” above all else except Honour. To remain Loyal to your Family and the code, to Honour them and your gifts. If you dishonour these gifts or your Family, don’t expect Loyalty in return.

Everyone proved not only their Loyalty but their Honour also.

I hope you’re having a well earned rest and getting excited about this years training.

My recovery is coming along well. Down to one crutch, hopefully just a walking stick by next week. My injury is in the rear vision mirror. Only looking forward now. So I’ll see you all soon. Can’t wait.

Sifu.

PS anyone wanting to train tomorrow we’ll be open from 9am -10:30!

Hi guys!

Thank you for a fantastic day on Saturday! Hope you all enjoyed the Atomic, some feedback on the venue would be appreciated for future events.

It’s a busy time right now, Christmas is only days away. As such we will be closed from Thursday inclusive. If you have keys or know someone with keys then of course come in to do your own training.

Classes this week are casual. Zac is happy to do the lunch classes on Monday and Wednesday, but there are no structured classes in the evening. From 5:30 tonight, Tuesday and Wednesday we will be open for you to do your own training, or tee up with someone and work on aspects of your game that you need to improve! I plan to be there to open up on these days and will be happy to work with anyone if you need a partner or ideas for a workout.

Our instuctors need a break, their commitment and support has been amazing this year and every year. We’re still deciding on our open date for the new year. It will most likely be Monday 4th Jan, at least for open mat time.

If we don’t see you between now and then, we hope you have a beautiful Christmas and New Year! Thank you for all of your efforts, loyalty and dedication this year. Looking forward to a very strong year in 2021.

See you on the mat,

Sifu and Amy

Hi guys!

So much going on this week! Finishing last week with such a strong school grading (adults and kids) was fantastic. Monday Sifu was in for what turned out to be a very successful surgery as far as the surgeon is concerned. Sifu is recovering very well, uncharacteristically not trying to do too much! Now tomorrow is the Gold Belt grading and our end of year party!

Friends and family are welcome to come to the grading. Kid’s and parents are welcome too! There’s only restrictions on the party as Atomic are fully booked. We have booked for 46 all up (6 on a seperate table if you can only stick around for a drink and go). At last count there were 5-6 luncheon spots still available, so if you have forgotten to put your name down there may still be space for you. If you are paying on the day please bring cash ($55).

Grading starts at 10am. After the grading there is also the Student of the Year Awards and Sifu’s year in summary/plans for next year discussion. We should be heading off to the Atomic between 11:30 and 12noon.

I’ve been getting some nice messages over the last couple of days from some of you. Thank you very much! Hope I put on a good performance for you.

See you all tomorrow!

Hi guys!!!

What an amazing grading day that was! Congratulations everyone!!! And what an achievement for our 7 new Black Belts! (2 brand new, 5 next levels) and our very first Junior Black Belt!!! Well done guys. As Sifu said, he can go into his op today feeling braver after seeing what you all did on Saturday. Thanks for making it such an inspiring event.

We need final numbers for the party this weekend!!! PLEASE let me know if you are coming to the Atomic Beer Project with us for lunch after the grading. Let me know if it’s just you or you’re bringing someone(s). The $55 includes a 3 course lunch.

We also managed to negotiate a “tall table” for 6 people for 1 hour to be added to our booking for people who can only stay for a short while, there is no charge for this but could book out quickly so get back to me asap.

Otherwise, if you plan to stay it’s pay per person – Atomic’s conditions for group bookings for 10 or more people.

Please let me know ASAP/TODAY they are pressing me for final numbers.

Thank you!!!

Amy

Hi guys,

It became quite apparent last night that all of the traditional Wing Chun aspects of the coming grading assessments need some work. We have only 3 weeks until the end of year school grading (12th December), that’s a lot of ground to cover in a short period of time.

So tonight’s boxing class will be 50/50, boxing/wing chun.

With the boxing we’ll keep it dirty adding some new tricks to our game that can not just lead into close striking opportunities but the potential for takedowns as well.

With the Wing Chun we’ll keep it strictly Traditional. Chi Sau (or for white belts Trapping Hands), Forms and Wooden Dummy. Boxing purists who are not grading feel free to work on your light/technical sparring skills.

I plan to stick around until late, so if class runs over and you can stay to keep drilling your material, I’ll be here.

Same goes for Thursday after BJJ. Let me know if you would like to come in from 7pm to work on grading material until 8/8:30.

In addition! Peak Performance starts this Sunday! It’s been condensed to 4 weeks so we’re done before the year (and Summer) is out. Get your name down. It’s a fitness and nutrition course that will give you the tools for the duration of your lifetime.

See you then,

Amy
