Hi guys,

Drawing a little inspiration from Sifu’s latest vid of his kicks 12 months after his hip resurfacing, we are spending the next couple of weeks working on our kicks – not at the expense of everything else but this theme will play a significant role in all Wing Chun classes.

You can expect to stretch, condition, drill for targeting, acuracy and speed. For the kicks themselves we will work on your singles, then combos, then look at more advanced concepts like change-ups and spinning kicks.

Traditionalists, you’ll still get your forms, wooden dummy and chi sau. Fitness fanatics, you’ll still get your workouts.

Enjoy the ride.

See you on the mat.

Never Be A Victim – A Seminar – Sunday 10th April 11am (2hrs)

We train for many reasons: health & wellbeing, fitness, combat skills, comradery, goal & dream fulfilment, all of which are completely legit reasons to train. The problem we have is, none of those reasons tackle the most important reason and that is the ability to survive a full-on attack on the street.

Martial arts has little to do with self defence. I know that sounds weird, but unfortunately it’s true. Everything changes on the street. There are no mats, just concrete. No referee, you’re on your own. No fair play, no rules, no tapping out. Just survival of the smartest and most adaptable.

As many of you know, my past life involved protecting some of Australia’s most dangerous criminals. That experience altered my viewpoint on survival on the street forever.

This seminar has been 40 years in the making. On this day we will cover not only physical and environmental tactics, but the all-important psychological elements of your self-defence so that you never become a victim on the street, in your car, in isolated areas.

Learn to be smarter than the enemy and survive to make it home to your loved ones.

The seminar is open to students past & present, friends, family and work colleagues.

Cover charge is $70 per person.

Sign up forms are at reception or reply to this email, comment on this post or direct message us and we will book you in!

Don’t forget to share, retweet or forward this post – you don’t know who may need it!

(please allow 30mins to run over-time on the day)

Well they say the proof is in the pudding and Saturday was a great example of that everyone not only passed but passed with flying colours – a testament to your efforts and the efforts of the coaching team. Congratulations to all, I was most impressed.

As you know I’m off to QLD at the end of this week. Unfortunately I have to postpone the Mackay leg as Richard’s family have covid. They are probably past the worst of it and I could probably stay with Joe, but I would feel wierd doing seminars on Richard’s mat without him – no can do. Plus Richard and I have a lot of catching up to do. So after Easter I’ll be there.

It’s exciting that New Zealand is opening up at last, I’m looking forward to catching up with Dyane and her students, can’t wait.

So, off to Ipswich to hang out on Will’s mat for a few days. Really excited about that.

The date for the “Never Be A Victim” seminar is Sunday April 10th at 11am. This is arguably the most important seminar I teach, it’s a breakdown of urban survival tactics, the ritual, the fence, weapons of opportunity and most importantly the psychology of street combat, especially how to turn fear into a friend then weaponise it. Not to be missed.

So, once again congratulations to students and coaches for a stellar effort.

Hi all!

This Saturday is the adults Tip grading at 10am. The Juniors All Ages class this Saturday will be held early at 9am, for this weekend only. Juniors Saturday will resume normal start time the following weekend.

Focus this week for Wing Chun will obviously be grading practice. Come in to prep or help, either way you’re learning and you’ll get a workout.

BJJ and Boxing Foundations classes went very well last week and if numbers remain relatively consistent we will continue with these additional classes.

If you’re unsure what our timetable now looks like, please refer to attached timetable. Obviously this Saturday is running a little different to facilitate the grading.

Also this week is the second Junior Masters Class. It runs on the 3rd Friday of the month and is open to Orange belts and above with a keen interest in coaching and leadership. We discuss communication, approaches to coaching, plus we do a little extra/advanced training outside of the curriculum.

Hope to see you all this week!

Hi guys!

Happy Thursday! Blue skies and sunshine…love it!

Tuesday night’s foundations class for BJJ was great, we had an awesome turnout, there was sweat and laughter – two good signs of an enjoyable training session. I’m looking forward to next Tuesday’s session with you.

Yesterday it was all about a good warm up, forms and grading prac. You guys are looking good, keep up the work and you will have a solid grading on 19th March. If you’re not grading, do what we do and pay it forward, come in help out like someone did for your when it was your time. You can learn so much from helping others.

Tonight’s sessions are 6pm BJJ with March, afterwards we’ve been invited to a games night at the ATOMIC, they’re expecting about 4 of us and me a little later, but if you’re keen to go and help us win…not sure what… then let me know and I’ll see if we can add you on!

At 7.15pm is the first Boxing Foundations class. Like the BJJ foundations, it is how it sounds – FOUNDATIONS. Working all the basic essentials. This is important for all levels, no matter how far down the path you are, but if you’re a beginner it’s a perfect start to your journey.

Classes today:

4.30pm JMAP Over 10’s
6pm BJJ
7,15pm Boxing Foundations

Classes Friday:

12.15 Wing Chun (Sparring Clinic) Sifu will be co-coaching with Frances
6.30pm Wing Chun

See you on the mat!
